Bairrada
Of great and remote traditions in vine culture, Bairrada is the land of many good wines, made with high quality grape varieties, such as Baga in red wines and Bical in white.
The caste Baga is the dominant ink variety. The wines made from the Baga variety are full of color and rich in acids, however they are well-balanced and have high longevity. Recently in the DOC region of Bairrada it was allowed to plant international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Pinot Noir that share the land with other national grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional or Tinta Roriz.
The white caste Fernão Pires (in the region named by Maria Gomes) is the most planted. There are also Arinto, Rabo de Ovelha, Cercial and Chardonnay. The whites of the region are delicate and aromatic. The sparkling wines of the region are widely used as appetizers or to accompany the local cuisine.
