Dão

Rich and varied, the traditional gastronomy of this region is also one of its main attractions, along with the Dão wine. With an extension of approximately 376 000 hectares, Dão region develops between deeply mountainous areas and valleys with gentle and rounded hills and slopes, with a cold and rainy climate in winter and hot and dry in summer, unique conditions for the production of wines without equal.

The castes in Dão are varied. As for the white varieties, Encruzado, Bical, Cercial, Malvasia Fina, Rabo de Ovelha and Verdelho stand out. In the red varieties, besides Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Jaen and Tinta Roriz, we have the less valued Baga, Bastardo and Tinta Pinheira. The white wines are quite aromatic, balanced and fruity. The reds are well-bodied, aromatic and complex after aging in bottle.
