Alentejo

The region occupies more than a third of the continental territory and is one of the largest wine regions in Portugal. It benefits from a warm and dry climate, with an excellent “terroir”, which has boosted numerous investments in the wine sector, which has translated into the production of some of the best Portuguese wines and, consequently, the international recognition of Alentejo wines.

This region was demarcated in 1988 and is divided into eight sub-regions: Reguengos, Borba, Redondo, Vidigueira, Évora, Granja-Amareleja, Portalegre and Moura.

The most important white varieties of the region are Antão Vaz and Arinto. Regarding the red varieties, the importance of Trincadeira, Aragonez, Castelão and Alicante Bouschet (French variety) stands out.

Alentejo DOC white wines are generally mild, slightly acidic and with tropical fruit aromas. The reds are full-bodied, rich in mandarins and with scents of wild and red fruits.

In short, Alentejo wines offer great pleasure, whether white, pink or red! They are complete wines, with strong aromatic exuberance, round and smooth wines, with a unique ability to be drunk early, but knowing how to age with distinction.
