Setubal

The region has become a tourist destination of excellence thanks to the protected nature of the Arrábida and Marinho D. Luís Saldanha Natural Parks, the Sado Estuary Natural Reserve, the Arriba Fóssil da Caparica Protected Landscape and the excellent tourist infrastructures and built heritage, equally rich in diversity and historical importance. Currently, Arrábida is being recognized as a Natural and Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The producers of this region have prestigious wines and are winners of several international awards. But the recognition is already ancient, since during the Low Middle Ages, between the 12th and 15th centuries, wine was one of the main exports of the Setubal Peninsula, stimulated by technological advances introduced by religious orders.
